Who leads Retractive
Retractive is led by Joe Villella, a senior civil engineer with extensive experience in road and drainage design, commercial infrastructure, authority coordination, civil documentation and project management. His background includes large infrastructure projects, urban development work, commercial site engineering and multidisciplinary coordination.
Joe has designed and managed projects including roads, arterial interfaces, subdivisions, warehouses, supercentre developments, medical facilities, car parks, drainage systems and airport-related infrastructure. That experience is supported by strong drafting and modelling capability, design management expertise and a commercial understanding shaped by real project delivery.
In addition to consulting, Joe has a long history in innovation and product development. He invented the Fanaway retractable-blade ceiling fan and continues to develop new engineering products, including Hydro Spheres. This dual background informs the way Retractive evaluates design opportunities, constructability, value and differentiation.

Invented Fanaway, a retractable blade ceiling fan.

Worked with Beacon Lighting to scale Fanaway globally.

Sold share in Fanaway and continued consulting and innovating.
